A Camera That Knows What a Tout Looks Like: Eight Months Into Mito's AI Experiment, the City Can't Say If It Works
On September 3, 2026, the vendor behind Mito City's AI camera system published its first account of roughly eight months policing touts in the Daikumachi nightlife district. The machine is trained to recognize the physical gestures a prefectural ordinance makes illegal — blocking a path, a hand on a shoulder, walking alongside a stranger.
