Uguisudani's Only Box Health: Reverse-Engineering the Price Board at Sanchome no Okusama

The board at Sanchome no Okusama prints four course prices and a tax-inclusive column that is always exactly 80 yen short of ten percent. That is not sloppy rounding — it is an 800 yen door charge the shop does not tax, plus 330 yen a minute. Once you see the formula, every discount, extension and double course in Uguisudani's only store-based health resolves into arithmetic you can do at the counter.

Uguisudani's Only Box Health: Reverse-Engineering the Price Board at Sanchome no Okusama
Elon
ElonI spent a Monday morning staring at four numbers on a price board in Negishi because they were wrong in a way that was too consistent to be a mistake. Every tax-inclusive figure this shop prints is exactly ¥80 under a straight 10%. Not ¥83, not ¥76 — ¥80, four times out of four. Numbers that wrong that regularly aren't errors, they're a formula somebody forgot to explain. It took me one train ride to work out what the formula was, and by the time I got off at Uguisudani I could price any course, any extension and any combination in the place off the top of my head. That's the whole article. The rest is me checking whether the sale is real.

One shop, one category

Pull up Cityheaven, filter Uguisudani down to herusu — store-based health, the kind with rooms, as opposed to a delivery outfit that sends someone to your hotel — and the portal returns a result count of 1 of 1.

That's it. That's the whole category. Sanchome no Okusama (三丁目の奥様), a hitozuma and jukujo house at 1-6-15 Negishi, Taito-ku, one minute out of the north exit of JR Uguisudani, phone 03-3874-0044, part of the Hare-kei group. The shop's own site claims to be "the only box health in Uguisudani." I went in expecting marketing. The portal's own filter agrees with it.

Small thing that pleased me: a shop named for the third block sits in the first block of Negishi. Nobody was going to name it Ichome no Okusama.

Hours are 9:00–23:00, and the closed-days field says New Year's Day only. Both the portal and the shop's own site say the same thing, which after a year of reading these pages I have learned to treat as a small miracle. Hold that thought — the hours are where this one eventually falls down, just not in the way you'd expect.

The board, and the formula hiding in it

Here's what the shop publishes. Two columns, exactly as printed, all-day rate — there is no time-band pricing here, everything is ALL TIME:

Course Listed Marked tax-incl Per minute (all-in)
40 min ¥12,800 ¥14,000 ¥350
50 min ¥15,800 ¥17,300 ¥346
60 min ¥18,800 ¥20,600 ¥343
70 min ¥21,800 ¥23,900 ¥341
Extension, 20 min ¥8,000 ¥400

Now run the tax. ¥12,800 × 1.1 = ¥14,080, and the board says ¥14,000. ¥15,800 × 1.1 = ¥17,380; board says ¥17,300. ¥18,800 → ¥20,680; board says ¥20,600. ¥21,800 → ¥23,980; board says ¥23,900.

Four courses, four misses, every one of them exactly ¥80 low. That is not rounding. Rounding drifts. This is a constant.

¥80 is 10% of ¥800. So somewhere in every price on this board there is an ¥800 component the shop is not taxing. Test it:

  • Pre-tax: 40 min = 800 + (300 × 40) = 12,800. 50 min = 800 + (300 × 50) = 15,800. 60 min = 18,800. 70 min = 21,800.
  • Tax-inclusive: 800 + (330 × 40) = 14,000. 800 + (330 × 50) = 17,300. 800 + (330 × 60) = 20,600. 800 + (330 × 70) = 23,900.

All eight. The entire price board is an ¥800 door charge plus ¥330 a minute, with the ¥800 sitting outside the tax and the time inside it. The declining per-minute rate down the column isn't a volume discount — it's the fixed ¥800 getting spread over more minutes. At 40 minutes the door is ¥20 a minute of your bill; at 70 it's ¥11.

I like this shop for that. It's a two-parameter price list wearing a four-row costume, and once you have the two parameters you can price anything they can sell you.

The extension is a ¥1,400 surcharge, and I can tell you exactly when to pay it

Twenty minutes inside a course costs 330 × 20 = ¥6,600. Twenty minutes bought as an extension costs ¥8,000. So an extension is the same time for ¥1,400 more, every time, no exceptions. If you know before you walk in that you want ninety minutes, do not buy seventy and extend.

Except — and this is where it gets good — you often can't buy ninety in one piece. The board tops out at 70 minutes. Anything longer is what the shop calls a double or triple course: two or three courses stapled together. And the system page is explicit about the consequence: "For double and triple courses, a nomination fee is charged per course."

So an extra course costs you an extra ¥800 door charge plus an extra ¥2,000 nomination fee = ¥2,800, while an extra 20-minute extension costs ¥1,400. Which means the two routes cross, and they cross cleanly:

Total time Via double course (+nomination each) Via one course + extensions Cheaper
80 min 40+40 = ¥28,000 + ¥4,000 = ¥32,000 60 + one ext = ¥28,600 + ¥2,000 = ¥30,600 extension, by ¥1,400
90 min 40+50 = ¥31,300 + ¥4,000 = ¥35,300 70 + one ext = ¥31,900 + ¥2,000 = ¥33,900 extension, by ¥1,400
100 min 50+50 = ¥34,600 + ¥4,000 = ¥38,600 60 + two ext = ¥36,600 + ¥2,000 = ¥38,600 dead heat
110 min 40+70 = ¥37,900 + ¥4,000 = ¥41,900 70 + two ext = ¥39,900 + ¥2,000 = ¥41,900 dead heat
130 min 60+70 = ¥44,500 + ¥4,000 = ¥48,500 70 + three ext = ¥47,900 + ¥2,000 = ¥49,900 double course, by ¥1,400

One extension beats a second course by ¥1,400. Two extensions tie it. Three lose by ¥1,400. That's the whole rule, and it holds because ¥1,400 goes into ¥2,800 exactly twice.

One condition attached: all of the above assumes you're nominating. If you're going free-choice, there's no ¥2,000 to duplicate, an extra course costs only the ¥800 door, and the extension never wins — it loses by ¥600 every time. Free choice, always buy the double. Nominating, never buy more than two extensions.

What nomination actually costs here

The board says shimei 2,000円〜 — from ¥2,000. The shop's own price simulator, four screens deeper, offers four settings: ¥0 (free choice), ¥2,000, ¥3,000, and ¥3,500 for "certain women."

That "〜" is hiding a 75% spread, and there is no published list of who sits in which tier. You find out at the counter. Membership is free, at least, and the shop will issue you a receipt if you ask.

But the real price of nominating at this shop isn't ¥2,000, and it isn't ¥3,500 either. It's the two headline sales you become ineligible for, both of which are free-choice only. Do that subtraction on a 50-minute visit during the September sale:

Route, 50 min Cost
Sale price, free choice ¥13,900
Board price + ¥2,000 nomination ¥19,300
Board price + ¥3,500 nomination ¥20,800
Board + ¥2,000 nomination − phone-booking discount ¥18,300

Choosing your own company costs between ¥4,400 and ¥6,900 on a ¥13,900 base — a 32% to 50% premium. That's the number to weigh, not the one on the board.

The sale that ends on three different days

The 50-minute Super SALE is the shop's headline offer: free choice, all time, ¥13,900 tax-inclusive, against a board price of ¥17,300. Three sources tell you when it runs.

Source Sale window
Shop's own event page September 1 – September 14
Cityheaven event listing August 31 – September 30
Cityheaven coupon August 28 – September 30

Sixteen days of daylight between the shop and the portal, and the two portal surfaces don't even agree with each other on the start date. The shop's own news feed, dated August 31, announces the sale as "September 1 (Tue) – September 14 (Mon)." When a shop and its listing disagree about a shop's own calendar, back the shop. Assume the ¥13,900 dies on the 14th and treat anything after that as a bonus.

The coupon badge says 12% OFF, and that number is wrong in your favour. Here's the mechanism: the coupon compares its tax-inclusive ¥13,900 against ¥15,800 — the pre-tax column. 13,900 ÷ 15,800 = 12.0% off, arithmetically fine and economically meaningless, because ¥15,800 is not a sum of money anybody at this shop can hand over. The price you'd otherwise pay is ¥17,300. Against that, ¥13,900 is ¥3,400 off, 19.7%. The portal is underselling its own coupon by seven and a half points.

And then there's the FAQ on the portal, which I read three times to be sure. Under "What course would you recommend for a first visit?": "The regular free-choice 50-minute course is ¥13,900, and right now, for a limited time, we're offering the free-choice 50-minute course at ¥13,900." Same number, both sides of the discount. Somebody updated the sale price and forgot the sentence had two halves.

The rest of September, priced

The shop is running ten simultaneous promotions. This is the entire stack, with what each one is actually worth and — the part that matters — what it refuses to combine with.

Promotion Worth Stacks with
Super SALE (50 min, free choice) ¥13,900 vs ¥17,300 → −¥3,400 nothing at all
Weekday morning sale (Mon–Fri 9:00–12:00, 40 min, first 5, no nomination) ¥12,800 → ¥10,800 nothing
Phone-booking discount −¥1,000, and it survives nomination regular / member card only
One Month (women within a month of debut) −¥3,000 per course, ×2 on a double nothing; repeat nomination excluded
NEW FACE (women with the newcomer badge) −¥1,000 per course regular / member card
Hajimete no Chu (first time nominating a given woman) −¥1,000, −¥2,000 on a double regular / member card
Cityheaven review discount −¥1,000 next visit, valid two months regular / member card
3-chome Day (3rd, 13th, 23rd, 30th, 31st, web booking) 300 points
Mitene! (Sep 19–27, show it and nominate her) ¥1,000 voucher for next time
Chotto dake Kanshasai (Sep 24–30) ¥500–¥2,000 in vouchers by course length

Read the right-hand column twice, because it's the actual product. Nine of the ten promotions refuse to combine with each other. The only thing that stacks is the loyalty card. That is not an accident; that is the entire design.

Which makes the ranking easy. During the sale window, ¥13,900 free-choice for 50 minutes beats every stacked alternative — a card-carrying regular booking by phone gets 17,300 − 1,000 − 1,000 = ¥15,300, still ¥1,400 worse. After the 14th, that ¥15,300 becomes the floor for regulars and ¥16,300 for everyone else.

Two footnotes worth your attention. First, the portal's version of the One Month event quotes the 50-minute course as ¥17,800 before the ¥3,000 discount, where the shop's board says ¥17,300 — a ¥500 phantom. The discount is written as ¥3,000 off the course total, so take the ¥3,000 and ignore the arithmetic around it. Second, the portal's front-page banner advertises the micro bikini option at ¥1,000. The shop's option list prices it at ¥2,000, with ¥1,000 reserved for regulars. Same ¥1,000 gap, opposite direction from the coupon.

Full option list, since the shop publishes it and the portal doesn't: pantyhose ¥1,000 and panties ¥2,000 (both yours to keep), rotor ¥1,000, vibrator ¥3,000, wand ¥3,000, watersports ¥3,000, facial ¥4,000, swallow ¥5,000, micro bikini ¥2,000 (¥1,000 regulars, keep it), body tights ¥2,000 (keep it), and one line reading "masturbation — free." Availability varies by woman.

The loyalty card is the only compounding thing in the building

Three schemes running at once, and they're worth very different amounts.

The stamp card. A group-wide Hare-kei members card, one stamp per visit, 20 stamps converts you to "regular" status. Regular status is ¥1,000 off every visit, all time, plus the halved micro bikini, plus the right to extend your benefits to a companion you bring. Twenty visits at the ¥17,300 board price is roughly ¥346,000 of spending to unlock a 5.8% standing discount — but the stamps pool across the whole group, and the group is 16 shops across Tokyo, Saitama, Yokohama and Kawasaki. If you drink from that well at all, the card fills itself.

The points card. 1% of spend, 1,000 points redeems for a ¥1,000 voucher. On a ¥17,300 visit that's 173 points — call it a rebate you'll notice in a year.

3-chome Day. Book through Cityheaven's web form on a date containing a 3 — the 3rd, 13th, 23rd, 30th or 31st — and collect 300 bonus points. On a ¥17,300 course that's 473 points total instead of 173, tripling the effective rate to about 2.7%. Genuinely the best day of the month to book if you book on the web. But the phone-booking discount is a flat ¥1,000 in cash, and ¥1,000 beats ¥473 without needing a calculator. Phone wins, even on a 3-day.

And the one nobody advertises: bring any three expired discount vouchers — any Hare-kei shop, Tokyo or Saitama or Yokohama or Kawasaki, any promotion, expiry irrelevant — and the shop knocks ¥1,000 off on the spot. I've read a lot of these pages. I have never seen another shop turn its own dead paper back into money. If you have a drawer, check the drawer.

The roster, counted

Fifty-seven women are listed. That's the number that matters less than the next one.

Cut Count
Women on the roster 57
With at least one shift in the next 7 days 32
With no shift at all this week 25
Keeping a photo diary 48 (84%)
Carrying at least one customer review 42 (74%)
With video 11 (19%)
Flagged as newcomers 2

Forty-four percent of the roster isn't working this week. That's normal for a hitozuma house — these are women with other lives — but it means the browse page is showing you nearly twice the shop you can actually book. Shop-wide, Cityheaven holds 917 reviews, and 74% of the women carry at least one. For comparison, I took apart a 95-woman Kabukicho floor last week where the figure was two out of ninety-five. Here you can read about three-quarters of the roster before you choose. That is the single best thing about this listing.

The demographics are exactly what the sign says:

Metric Value
Age range 25–48, mean 35.8
Aged 40 or over 20 of 57 (35%)
Under 27 2
Height 141–170 cm, mean 158.0
Bust 78–103 cm, mean 87.2

Cup distribution: E 16, D 14, C 7, F 6, B 6, G 5, A 1, H 1, I 1. D and E together are more than half the board. The weekly nomination ranking for August 31–September 6 puts Shirasaki Kurea (34) first and Hojo Sara (34) second; the monthly ranking for August has them the other way round. Two women, both 34, trading the top of a 57-woman house between them — and Hojo Sara is the one the shop has nominated for Miss Heaven.

The clock on the door is not the clock on the floor

Here's where the consistency runs out. Seven days of published shifts, all 57 women:

Mon 9/7 Tue 9/8 Wed 9/9 Thu 9/10 Fri 9/11 Sat 9/12 Sun 9/13
Women on shift 8 15 10 12 9 9 8
Starting by 9:00 1 2 1 2 0 2 1
First arrival 9:00 9:00 9:00 9:00 10:00 9:00 9:00
Last departure 23:00 23:00 23:00 23:00 23:00 22:00 23:00

Seventy-one shifts across the week, averaging 2.2 working days per woman and a shift length of roughly six and a half hours.

Tuesday is nearly double the weekend. Fifteen women on a Tuesday, nine on Saturday, eight on Sunday. If you've built your instincts in Kabukicho or Yoshiwara this will feel backwards, and it isn't — it's the tell of a genuine housewife roster. These women work while the rest of the household is out. Saturday is also the youngest board of the week by mean age, and the only day nobody stays past 22:00.

Now hold that table next to the weekday morning sale: 40 minutes for ¥10,800, weekdays, 9:00 to 12:00, first five customers. The cap is five. The number of women on the floor before noon is two to four, and on Friday the answer between 9:00 and 10:00 is zero. The binding constraint on that promotion has never once been the five-customer limit. It's the roster. Turn up at 9:00 on a Monday and you are choosing from exactly one woman — Mizuki Yuka, 41, who opens four mornings a week and is the closest thing this place has to a doorman.

One caveat on that sale I can't resolve from the page: it quotes the "regular price" as ¥12,800, which is the pre-tax figure, and doesn't mark ¥10,800 as tax-inclusive the way the Super SALE explicitly does. If ¥10,800 is all-in, it's ¥270 a minute — the cheapest number this shop prints anywhere. If it's pre-tax, it's about ¥11,800 all-in, or ¥295. Ask at the counter. Either way it wins.

Booking, and one more page that disagrees with itself

Channel Shop's own system page Cityheaven
Phone, same day from 8:30 from 8:30
Phone, day before from 12:30 from 12:30
Web tomorrow and the day after only, free choice only, 24h except 23:30–00:00 "from two weeks ahead"

The phone rules match. The web rule does not: the shop says you can book two days out, the portal says two weeks. The shop also says web booking is free-choice only — you cannot nominate through the form — which the portal doesn't mention at all and which quietly matters, because free choice is the condition on both sales anyway.

Payment is VISA and Mastercard only, no surcharge, and the shop states plainly that other cards will not work. There's no shop parking; there is a coin lot directly opposite. And there's a detail I'd want if I were nervous: the shop shows you her photograph before it takes your money, and says in writing that you're free to walk out at that point.

There is not one word of English, Chinese or Korean on either site. The phrase that does the work at reception is the one printed at the top of every Cityheaven page: "Heaven mita"I saw you on Heaven. Four syllables, and it's what activates the coupon.

Sanchome no Okusama is the only store-based health in Uguisudani, it's a minute from the platform, it's open every day but one a year, and its price board is the most internally honest one I've taken apart in months — ¥800 at the door and ¥330 a minute, and it never once cheats on that. Nothing in this article is a complaint about the shop. Every discrepancy I found lives on the portal page, and every one of them resolves the same way: when the listing and the shop disagree, the shop is right.

So: come on a Tuesday, when fifteen women are on the board instead of the weekend's eight. Come before noon on a weekday if the 40-minute ¥10,800 is what you're after, and get there for the 9:00 open, because by 12:00 the promotion has five slots and the floor has had three or four women all morning — and skip Friday morning entirely, when the first arrival is 10:00. Book by phone, not the web form: ¥1,000 in hand beats 473 points, it's the only discount that survives nominating, and it's one of the two things that stack with the loyalty card. Buy the longest single course you can use and never a third extension. Go free choice during the sale — ¥13,900 for 50 minutes is ¥278 a minute against a board rate of ¥346, and nominating past it costs between ¥4,400 and ¥6,900. And check your wallet for three dead Hare-kei vouchers before you go, because this is the only shop I know of in Tokyo that pays you ¥1,000 for expired paper.

But do it before the 14th. The shop says that's when the ¥13,900 stops. The portal says the 30th. One of them is going to be standing at the register when you find out.
