Gotanda Queens — What 'Zero Training' Actually Buys You on a Weekday Afternoon

A 70-minute weekday afternoon call to Gotanda Queens, a deriheru that advertises girls sent out with no training at all. A field report on whether 'untrained' reads as charming or just unfinished.

Gotanda Queens — What 'Zero Training' Actually Buys You on a Weekday Afternoon
Elon
ElonMost shops sell polish. Gotanda Queens sells the absence of it — the page says the girls go out with no training session at all, delivered "in their fresh, untrained state." That's a bold thing to print, because it's the one promise a customer can verify in about ninety seconds. So I went to verify it.

The first thing worth noticing about Gotanda Queens isn't the concept. It's the clock. They run 11:00 to 23:00. In an industry where half of Gotanda is still dispatching at four in the morning, closing at eleven is practically a statement of purpose. Late-night shops sell to men coming off a bender. An 11-to-11 shop sells to men with a free afternoon. Different customer, different room, different mood.

So I did the thing the hours were clearly designed for and called on a Thursday afternoon, a little after two. I'd finished a client meeting near Osaki, had a gap before the evening train, and Gotanda is one stop away.

The Call

The desk picked up on the second ring. Not a call-center voice — a guy who sounded like he was sitting in a small office in Gotanda, which he probably was.

I asked the only question that matters at a shop like this: is the "no training" line real, or is it copy?

He didn't oversell it. He said, in effect: some of the girls have been here a few months and know what they're doing, some started this week, and if I wanted the second kind he'd tell me which ones those were. That's an honest answer. A shop that will steer you away from its own marketing when you ask directly is a shop that expects you to come back.

The system is straightforward. Courses run 60 minutes ¥18,000, 70 minutes ¥20,000, 90 minutes ¥23,000, and 110 minutes ¥26,000 for Gotanda-area hotels. There's a ¥2,000 nomination (shimei) fee and a ¥2,000 registration fee for first-timers, and transportation inside the Gotanda area is free. They were running a summer campaign waiving nomination fees, and the 90-minute-and-up courses came with a complimentary option — a costume or a toy, your pick. I took 70 minutes at ¥20,000. Long enough that nobody has to rush, short enough that an untrained girl doesn't run out of road.

That's the honest math on this place, by the way: the registration fee makes a first visit ¥22,000 rather than ¥20,000. Not hidden — it's printed — but worth knowing before you count your cash out in a hotel room.

Twenty-Five Minutes Later

She was maybe twenty-two, and she knocked instead of using the doorbell, which I've come to recognize as a tell. Girls who've done this for two years use the bell. Girls who are still slightly embarrassed to be standing in a hotel corridor knock.

Here's what "no training" looks like in practice, and it isn't what the copy implies.

It doesn't mean incompetent. It means unsequenced. A trained girl walks in and the next forty minutes are already laid out — bag down, shower offered, small talk in the designated small-talk window. She had none of that architecture. She put her bag on the chair, then moved it to the table, then looked at me and laughed at herself for it. When she asked about the shower she asked it about thirty seconds too early, realized it, and said "sorry, that was abrupt, wasn't it."

Some men will find that grating. I found it disarming, and I've been around this business twenty years. The manufactured version of this — the trained girl performing nervousness — is something you can spot instantly and never quite unsee. This was the actual article. There's no substitute for it and no way to fake it downward.

What You Trade Away

I'd be doing you a disservice if I only sold you the charm.

Untrained means the reading is worse. A girl with a season behind her watches your reactions and adjusts in real time; this one was watching, but watching the way a student watches — attentively, a beat late, checking with words what an experienced girl would have read off my face. Twice she asked "is this okay?" at moments where the answer was self-evident. That's not a flaw in her. It's the thing you are literally paying for here, arriving as a package deal.

The conversation, though, was better than at most places I've been in this ward. Not "so, what do you do for work" — an actual back-and-forth about the ridiculous heat, about the ceiling-mount aircon in this particular hotel that has exactly two settings, both wrong. She talked like someone who hadn't yet learned which topics are approved. Which is precisely the point of the shop.

Toward the end, the wind-down was the weakest stretch — abrupt where a veteran tapers. She checked the clock, said "ah," and the mood shifted a gear too fast. Again: consistent with the concept. You can't buy fresh and finished in the same seventy minutes.

She left at exactly the time she was supposed to, and apologized on the way out for the bag thing at the beginning, which she had apparently been thinking about for an hour.

Elon
ElonRead the concept as a filter, not a grade. If what you want from an hour is technical execution, ¥20,000 in Gotanda buys you considerably more of it elsewhere and you'll leave here annoyed. If what you want is a person who hasn't been sanded smooth yet, this is one of the few shops in the ward not pretending to be something else. One practical note: don't book the 60. Untrained girls need the extra ten minutes to find their footing, and the 70 is where this place actually works.

The Verdict

Category Stars
Front-desk handling ★★★★★
First impression of the girl ★★★★☆
Skill / service ★★★☆☆
Fullness of the time ★★★★☆
Value for money ★★★★☆
Overall ★★★★☆

The three stars on skill are not a complaint — they're the concept working as advertised. Gotanda Queens is selling a specific thing and delivering exactly that thing, which in this industry is rarer than being good. Come on a weekday afternoon, take the 70, and don't expect the machine to run smoothly. That's what you came for.
